OTHM Programmes launch in Sri Lanka

The Organisation for Tourism and Hospitality Management (OTHM) continues to be one of Britain's fastest expanding awarding and examination bodies, with a network of teaching and examination centres in UK and overseas.

In 2009 we successfully gained Ofqual/QCA recognition as an Awarding Body, followed by OTHM programmes being placed on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) in UK. OTHM are now also full members of FAB (The Federation of Awarding Bodies) and also continue to enjoy increased recognition with employers, government departments and universities in UK and overseas. Since our launch academically supported by our key 'Articulation' partner London South Bank University we have rapidly increased the number of candidates taking OTHM examinations each June and December. UK based candidates also have the opportunity of industry work experience via placement or as part-time workers during their study programme.

Our programmes target both newcomers to the industry as well as professionals seeking additional certification as part of the CPD and career progression. Some OTHM Diploma (level 5) and Higher Diploma (level 6) - have also successfully accessed the Final year of the BA (Hons) and also Master's Degrees at a number of British universities. In 2009, we launched the OTHM Post Graduate Diploma in International Tourism and Hospitality Management in collaboration with the University of Hertfordshire.

OTHM 'Highly Commended' centres were given permission to commence marketing and teaching at Post Grad level. Students completing this level 7 programme have a recognised qualification and also the option to spend just one semester at university to complete an MSc in International Tourism and Hospitality Management or an MSc in International Tourism Management.

An employer's initiative is being launched in 2010- directly promoting OTHM NQF programmes to the industry and also introducing our consultancy and tailor made training workshops targeting, operational, management and corporate levels. 2010 also sees the start of the OTHM - Preferred Partner' initiative- working more closely with PP delivery centres and Hotel schools in the UK and overseas.

OTHM are pleased to announce the opening of an office in Colombo. Over the past five years a number of Sri Lankan students have successfully completed OTHM programmes and accessed BA (Hons) and MSc places in UK. Many students have used OTHM qualifications to progress their careers in UK, overseas and back in their home countries.
