Commercial Bank named Lanka’s best once again

The Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC, for the second time in four months, has been adjudged the best bank in Sri Lanka with the latest accolade coming from FinanceAsia, one of the Asian region’s most respected financial magazines, the bank said. The winners of the annual Country Awards for Achievement announced in June names Commercial Bank of Ceylon as the Best Bank in Sri Lanka and Citi as the Best Foreign Commercial Bank operating in the country, it said in a statement.

“The 2010 list is only the second time that Sri Lanka has been included in the magazine’s prestigious awards programme. The Commercial Bank took the accolade on the first occasion too, making it two Best Bank awards out of the two presented to the country by FinanceAsia to date,” it said.

Ranked alongside Commercial Bank in the 2010 list of best domestic banks in the region are banks of the calibre of DBS (Singapore), HDFC Bank (India), Bank Mandiri (Indonesia), Public Bank (Malaysia), and Asia Commercial Bank (Vietnam). Notably, no domestic banks have been named for Bangladesh, Pakistan and Cambodia in the 2010 rankings.

In March this year, the Commercial Bank was adjudged Best Bank in Sri Lanka by Global Finance magazine for the 12th year running.
