City vice isn’t restricted to Colombo 10

Police after raiding a guesthouse in Maradana

How interesting to read that the Police are cracking down on vice – in Maradana (the Sunday Times, June 13).

Why only Maradana? Are there not vice dens in other parts of the city, such as Kollupitiya? It seems that the Mahinda Chintanaya operates only from a distance.

In Kollupitiya, brothels carry on business with impunity and seeming immunity to the law. The “madames” in the city’s more fashionable quarters seem to have more power than presidents.

For the past 28 years, brothels have been flourishing in a well-known shopping mall in Kollupitiya. Is the madame there more powerful than the all-powerful President’s Chinthanaya?

Siddharthaji cautioned us not to be taken in by appearances. We are urged to learn to distinguish between appearance and reality.
