‘Ashok Ferry Show’ on ETV

This is a fraternity of people who prefer being hidden behind a veil and not hog the limelight. They are the names we read on the cover of the book we absolutely enjoyed but have never seen. Well, now we can. The ‘Ashok Ferry Show’ to be telecast in ETV will bring to light these Sri Lankan writers and artists who have both mystified and intrigued us.

The show will discuss the lives, work and aspirations of the Sri Lankan writers and artists. Yet, the underscore of the program is its host, co-producer and the creator of the show, Ashok Ferry. He himself is an author and has written three books namely ‘Colpetty People’, ‘The good Little Ceylonese Girl’ and ‘Serendipity’. He is known for his witty charm and humor which is palpable in his books. He is also a prominent figure in the art scene prevailing in Sri Lanka.

Ashok Ferry would be seen having candid conversations with the artistes and these interviews were not set in flashy and colorful studios but in the outdoor with backgrounds showcasing beautiful Sri Lanka.
The show also doesn’t involve high tech cameras or Hollywood stunts but focuses on Ashok Ferry and how he drives the interview and prompt his interviewees to reveal their lives and dreams.

The advantage that Ashok Ferry has is that the artistes at his show are all his acquaintances and thus the show is more of a conversation between friends than a proper interview.

This show is aimed at celebrating and honoring the contemporary culture and prevailing Sri Lankan English literature . It is an attempt to popularize Sri Lankan English literature and also to bring these artistes more closer to the public.

The first series constituting 20 episodes will be aired on ETV from 19th of June at 8:30 pm with repeated telecasts on Sundays and Thursdays at 8:30 am and 10:00pm respectively.

Some of the artistes featured in the episodes include bigwigs like Anne Ranasinghe, Yasmine Gooneratne, Shyam Selvadurai and Seneka Abeyratne.
