Funday Times - A Poem for the week

A beggar girl
By Oshani Fernando (11 years), Visakha Vidyalaya

A beggar girl, so sweet and mild,
Begs for money, poor child.
Joys are less and pains more,
Island of hardship, rocks on every shore.

Tears in her eyes, clothes battered and worn,
Glad for a cent, to ease the burden born.
Straight from school, to home of many clans,
Then again to begging,
How'll she pass O/L exams?
