Stigmata set to launch latest album

By David Stephens

Stigmata is a band which is not merely a part of our country’s current rock music fabric but is rather one of its original threads. This thread wove itself around a handful of enthusiastic listeners and spun them into a massive and passionate fan base that still continues to grow.

Now in their tenth year of entertaining the head banging masses, Stigmata plans to launch a new album to coincide with this anniversary. The album is titled ‘Psalms of Conscious Martyrdom’ and will debut at a launch concert set to be held at the British Auditorium on June 26 from 7pm-10 pm. Tickets for the concert will be priced at Rs 1000.

“The new album is a labour in love and has been a work in progress for a very long time. It was created without the support of any sponsors, just purely through our own personal effort,” the band’s vocalist, Suresh de Silva explains.

A preview of two tracks from the album was held yesterday at the band’s studio in Piliyandala. It was attended by a few selected members from the media and some the band’s closest friends and fans.
If you are anxious to get your hands on the new album before the launch concert then you can log onto the band’s myspace page, www.myspace.com/stigmatasrilanka, and reserve a copy.
