Maathaa, war film footage stolen

The computer hard disk of the film ‘Maathaa’, which is based on the latter part of the 25-year-old conflict in the country, was stolen on Thursday by unknown persons from a production house in Nawala, Nugegoda, its producer said.

Award winning Buddhi Keerthisena, said “the robbers had entered the building through a small window which was almost impossible for anyone to get through. They had then gone through the bathroom and reached the studio. Only the material of the ‘Maathaa’ was stolen, so this movie was definitely their target”.

Mr. Keerthisena said that at this point he is not aware of who might be behind the theft, but the police and the President are keen on tracking down the guilty party.

A complaint was lodged at the Mirihana Police Station and investigations are being carried out.
Meanwhile, the President has appointed a special group to investigate the matter as well.

Policespokesman Prishantha Jayakody said “a special operations team has gone to the studio and on investigation has found some fingerprints,” adding that they are currently working on this lead.

Describing the movie, Mr. Keerthisena said “it is a story about people during the long humanitarian rescue. It is about how a Tamil family goes through the final stages of the war and gets away.”
