World Health Day

By Vinotheeba Reginald (14 years), Good Shepherd Convent, Kotahena

Do we know the value of health? We do not recognise the value of health until we fall ill. Good health is necessary for happiness and success. That's why the WHO (World Health Organisation) has declared April 7th as the World Health Day.

How can we keep our health? Healthy food, clean water, fresh air, clean environment, exercise, work, good habits and peaceful sleep are important for a healthy life. We must eat plain, wholesome food,
vegetables, leaves, grains and fruits which consists of vitamins and minerals which act against diseases, should be included. Water is very important.

We cannot live without water. So do not waste water. Fresh air and a clean environment are very important for a healthy life. Living in stuffy rooms and breathing foul air will soon spoil our health.

The climate change affects our health. We must keep our environment clean as you know how much the air is polluted. The greater use of fossil fuel leads to lung diseases like asthma. An unclean environment also causes many diseases like Dengue and Malaria.

We can keep our environment clean by planting trees, recycling waste (polythene) and by not throwing garbage on the roads. Let's be healthy to create a healthy world.

I am an umbrella

By Rumaiya Shums (Grade 4), Ilma International Girls' School

I am an umbrella and I was born in the year 2007 in a big factory. My name is Rainco. I am pink and white in colour. From the big factory, I was sent in a van with my friends to a shop. There I was hung on a hanger with my siblings. My life was very happy in that beautiful shop.

One day a little girl came to our shop with her mother and wanted her mother to buy me. So I was sold to her. I felt very sad to leave my family and friends. The little girl used to carry me during heavy rainy days and on very hot, sunny days. I started to get wet and dry again and again.

When I was out, I felt very happy but at home I felt lonely hanging in a corner of the big house. But now I think that I have to protect my owner from the rain and the sun always.
