The advanced standing arrangement will allow students to complete 2 years of the BSc Nursing Programme in Sri Lanka with the final 2 years at Edith Cowan University (ECU), in Perth, Australia.

This will offer Sri Lankan students the prospect of becoming qualified nurses through an internationally recognized, cost effective programme that enhances their overall skills and certifies employability across the world.

Speaking at the event, Mr. David Samuel, Assistant Manager-Business Development, Australian Trade Commission (Austrade), Australian High Commission stated that due to the high quality world-class education services Australia has to offer international students, it has become one of the world's most popular education destinations as more than 500,000 international students from nearly 200 countries are currently enrolled with Australian education institutions.

Elaborating on the BSc Nursing offered in conjunction with ECU, The Dean of IIHS Dr. Nihal De Silva said "through this programme students get an opportunity to study for 24 months at IIHS and continue their studies in Australia for the remaining 24 months.

Upon completing their BSc candidates can seek registration with the Nurses and Midwives Board of Western Australia." He said that annual surveys conducted in Australia have repeatedly shown that nursing is one of the most respected professions in the country. There are several choices of specialization. It's a profession that has maximum employability, flexible work hours and attractive salaries.

Dr. Kithsiri Edirisinghe, Managing Director of IIHS, stated programmes like the Master's in Aged Care and Health Services Management are needed in Sri Lanka and across the globe. He believes that this kind of formal education programme would greatly benefit the Sri Lankan health sector and also create opportunities for Sri Lankans to shine as international healthcare managers around the world.
