‘The Kalla Bongo Lake Resort’ in Hikkaduwa is not just another hotel. Melvin Janssen, the Dutch proprietor of the Resort wants his property should be different from the rest.
Though he wants to build his dream project in Hikkaduwa, he wants to get away from the busy and noisy beach frontier of the famous Hikka Beach.

‘The Kalla Bongo Lake Resort’ lies on one of the most breath taking locations about two kilometres interior towards Baddegama by the side of beautiful Hikkaduwa lagoon or more commonly known as Hikka bird Lake.
‘When I started this project in 2004, this was just a rubber forest. After hard work and dedication for many years it has come to the present status. My partner Joy Vrede supported me in everything. We together fulfilled our dream’ Melvin said.
‘Kalla Bongo Lake Resort’, is a luxury and modern getaway, for those who wants to chill out from the hassle city life. ‘Most of the guests coming to Kalla Bongo, wants to be free and just relax. This is my main idea of coming to this peaceful location. That’s why it has gained the name as a family resort.
‘Kalla Bongo Lake Resort’ has fifteen rooms – five by the lake with A/C and ten with non A/C by the pool overlooking the Hikka Lake. Hikkaduwa’s Bird Lake is well known for its picturesque scenery and tranquility, making the Kalla Bongo Hotel the ideal choice for visitors to Hikkaduwa, who want to combine busy beach life with unspoiled natural beauty.
Apart from relaxed atmosphere, guests can enjoy the water sports activities of the lake. Kalla Bongo is popularly known for river based water sports specially Wakeboarding, which is quite rare in Sri Lanka.
Cuisine around the world is the other attraction of the Resort. The restaurant of the Kalla Bongo Hotel offers a tasty a la carte menu with main focus on delicious fusion food. Sun terrace and pool bar are the two popular places.
‘We offer our guests with different kinds of dishes. Mainly are the fusion food, a combination of east and west. Sri Lankan dishes are much popular with most of the guests coming to this place. But we are ready to cater the need of the guests. Our experienced Cwhef always prepares different dishes from around the world’ he said.
The resort offers packages for seminars, conferences and also weddings and other private gigs. Spa treatment Centre and kid play area are popular with family crowds.
The prices range from Rs.6500/- (non A/C) to Rs. 7,500/- with A/C on full-board basis.
