Canada opens doors to high skilled professionals and investors

Canadian migration has been steady for few decades and to many Sri Lankans, Canada is the home. Prior to the skills migration boom in Canada, many migrants were accepted by the Canadian government primarily on the basis of having a family member. With the economic boom, Canada has opened its doors to skills professionals, and given the opportunity to obtain Permanent Residency based upon the skills and other attributes.

Similar to most other migration systems, such as Australia, Canada has adapted a comprehensive migration programme that comprises the skilled, family, humanitarian and other visas.

Canadian government has a list in place of occupations for skills required, and the list comprises primarily of 38 occupations. Medical professionals, Engineering, Accounting and ICT are some of the areas that Canada is seeking to fill up the existing demand for the available jobs.

The Canadian migration processing is a transparent one, where skills are firstly recognized in Canada and a preceding migration application to be lodged at the Canadian High Commission in Colombo.

It is said approximately 18 months are taken to conclude the processing, and the High Commission has been maintaining the processing times prescribed.

All applicants must sit for an IELTS test and score the relevant marks. Having a skilled spouse and blood relatives brings in extra points to the application.

In Canada, French language plays a major role and been able to prove the French knowledge will benefit your application further.
