Metal gig at Clancy’s

By Thushara Kulatunga

After three months devoid of heavy metal gigs in Colombo, the Clancy’s Pub will yet again explode with an overdose of loud intense music. On March 28, entertainment starved metal heads will witness three of the most intense bands in the country right now along with one of the finest up and coming musical outfits take the stage to give audiences an evening of musical madness.

‘Rise and Assault,’ is the name given to the event and it will celebrate the re-launch of the EP, of melodic death metallers - Fallen Grace. The EP also titled ‘Rise and Assault’ was launched during the bands performance at the Colombo Rock Fest, where Fallen Grace performed on the same stage as California based Metalcore band As I Lay Dying and Dubai Death Metallers Nervecell.

According to sources from the Grace camp, the two tracks in the EP, namely “Preach me Dark” and “Putrid Remains,” have been re-mastered for a better listening experience.

Sharing the stage with Fallen Grace will be up and coming Prog/Industrial/Nu Metal act Five Minutes Apart, who made their first appearance at TNL Onstage, where they ended up clinching the award for the best band. The band draws inspiration from artists such as Tool, A Perfect Circle and Breaking Benjamin.

Also taking the stage will be the band that pioneered the term and the concept of "hela metal" which is none other than Funeral in Heaven (FIH), who were the first Extreme Metal outfit to incorporate Sri Lankan history and culture into their music. FIH is also the brother band of Fallen Grace and they have a long history of playing shows together.

Sources from the FIH camp have revealed that apart from some never before performed covers, the band will also introduce their newest member who played percussions in the recently released recordings on the band’s myspace page.

Also scheduled to perform are Psychedelic Grunge Rockers Paranoid Earthling who have been relatively silent for a while, which we learn is because they are putting together their much anticipated debut album. This event is scheduled to start at 4.00 p.m at Clancy’s.

Tickets are priced at Rs.400 and will be available at the gate.
