The outcome of the match was known at the end of the first day’s play with Richmond playing safe which ultimately killed the game as they took just over 90 overs to put up a score of 127 on the board.

There was little interest for the supporters of the two sides when play got going on day two. It was the unbeaten half tons by Mahinda’s Nisala Tharaka and Kaushalya Gajasinghe with the duo putting on an unbroken 101 runs partnership which gave the crowd something to cheer.

Tharaka made a knock of 70 with five boundaries while Gajasinghe’s knock of 51 comprised three boundaries. The partnership helped Mahinda make a declaration after making 168 for 5. The opening day’s proceedings was a boring affair with Richmond making no effort at all by taking first lease of the wicket and plodding for just over 91 overs to make a score of 127.

Mahinda’s declaration gave an opportunity for the Richmondites to at least play with a positive approach for the benefit of the supporters of the two sides. But it did not turn out that way and as expected the match limped into a drab draw.
