Aquatic AGM after elections

By David Stephens

The period following the conclusion of the General Elections will also be a time for the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU) AGM. During this time Sri Lanka’s ruling body for Swimming, Diving, Water Polo, Synchronized Swimming and Open Water Swimming will commence electing members to a proper governing board.

Currently SLASU has all its operations controlled by an Interim Committee chaired by parliamentarian Maithripala Sirisena. According to Director General of the Department of Development Sports, Bandula Dahanayake, who will be involved in the election process of the new board, nominations for the election are still to be received and once they are, the new board can be voted in.

Nominations for the new board’s positions, such as the President, Secretary, Treasurer etc will be taken from all of the SLASU’s member clubs, which include the Kinross S&LS Club, Otter Aquatic Club, and the Sinhalese Sports Club to name a few.

He added that the election process would begin immediately after the General Elections are completed in April.
