OMC Asia Cup Open 2010 in Sri Lanka this March

Organization Mondiale Coiffure (OMC) Asia Cup Open 2010, which is one of the largest hair events not only in the Asian region, but also worldwide, will be held in Sri Lanka this March. The event, organized by the Sri Lanka Association of Hairdressers and Beauticians (SLAHAB) will be held at the Cinnamon Grand on March 7th and 8th. This occasion will bring together the professionals of the hair dressing industry from all over the world. Over 15 countries will be partaking in the competition including Japan, South Korea, Philippines, India, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Pakistan, Indonesia and Malaysia will send in their teams.

The competition has already received an overwhelming response for sponsorships and will be sponsored by the following brands on the following aspects; City and Guilds (education), Nature's Secrets (Professional skin care range), Pro Sport (gel) and L'Oreal (Hair color), Glamours (professional equipment supplier). The electronic media sponsorship will be provided by Derana TV and Siyatha, Real and Vettri radio stations.

The competitive categories will consist of ladies and gents hairdressing as well as stage make up, fantasy hair styles and nails. Providing space for the younger generation of the industry to showcase their skills and talents, a junior category is also open where participants under the age of 25 can compete. Also, as a result of a special request made by Founder President of SLAHAB Nayana Karunaratne, for the first time, the OMC Asia Cup Open has added bridal hairstyle and make up categories for the competition.

According to Karunaratne, recognizing the extensive talent which is emerging from the Asian region, OMC has even taken steps to make the competition more viable for participants to take part in through making participation more economical friendly. "This year the OMC Committee has allowed the usage of mannequins for creations instead of live models. Using a live model for the competition is quite expensive. However, now the participants are able to use mannequins hence participation becomes much more practical," she added.

The event will be open for competitors as well as observers. "This is a wonderful opportunity for the local participants since they are given the chance to participate in a globally recognized competition at a minimal cost since they do not have to spend on travelling to another country. We are granting access for everyone for almost no-cost. Even the knowledge that they observers would gain in these two days of activities is invaluable," she added. The event will conclude with a grand hair and fashion show and an award ceremony.

SLAHAB which has been in operation in Sri Lanka for nearly a decade now, is a gathering of all the professionals of the hair care and beauty industry. They thrive on opening up avenues of exposure and providing knowledge for the professionals of the industry, assisting them reach into higher levels in their careers. Some of the top beauticians from the local hair and beauty industry such as current SLAHAB President Rayaka Jayasuriya, Johann Pieris, Ramzi Rahaman, Kanjana Godigamuwa, Crissy Rozairo,Romani de Mel, Premasiri Hewawasam, as well as Prisca Perera will be working with Nayana and the SLAHAB committee.

The OMC is the biggest beauty organization in the world with the participation of over 60 member countries and 500,000 salon owners. The current president of OMC World President is Salvatore Fodera . OMC strives to be part of escalating the salon industry through promoting OMC Hair World, operating as a link between the [professionals' countries, sharing ideas and competencies as well as providing education of high standards.

The SLAHAB / OMC Sri Lanka members will be entitled for free entrance to the OMC Asia Cup Open 2010 on both days, on producing their membership cards.
