All eyes on Pasindu and Ishan at Sigiriya Rally

All eyes will be on Pasindu Peiris and Ishan Dissanayake at the Second Sigiriya Rally Cross to be held on March 7 which will be conducted on a purpose built ‘rally cross’ track, combining a part of the paved air strip and a section of the surrounding land. The event is being conducted by the Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Riders (better known as SLARDAR).

Pasindu Peiris and Ishan Dissanayake were the winners at the first Sigiriya Rallly Cross and since they will be familiar with the terrain, they are expected to do well but others in the fray too are keen to show off their skills at this historic venue.

Mahes Gammanpila, the doyen of motor racing, will be heavily involved in the Sigiriya Rally Cross. No doubt Sri Lanka Air Force who will be associated with the rally will really appreciate his services.
SLARDAR has conducted such events as the Foxhill, Gunners and Gajaba Supercross events, Rotherham Katukurunda (Air Force ) Meet and other major motorsport events, in conjunction with the Sri Lanka Air Force and will be associated with the 2010 Sigiriya Rally Cross as well.

All the thrills associated with motor rallying will be on display at the meet. An added attraction at Sigiriya will be the newly opened Museum. An organizer explained that the event will start 9 am and will end around 1.30 pm giving spectators the chance to take in the Museum as well.

Twenty four events are scheduled to be worked off and the organizers are expecting a large crowd and all facilities have been arranged for spectators, including medical facilities, said an organizer of the event.
Gayan Sanduruwan who will be taking part at the Sigiriya Rally Cross will be making a comeback after nearly four months as he was injured at the Maharagama Rally Cross. The others who will need watching at the meet are Under 16 competitor Shehan Adhikari and Under 13 rider Gurusinghe. There will also be junior events for the Under 13 and Under 10 competitors as well.
