A fantasy adventure ‘Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief’ based on the best selling children’s novel ‘The Lightning Thief’ by Rick Riordan will be released at the Savoy cinema, Wellawatta from March 3.
Directed by Chris Columbus the movie tells the story of the son of Poseidon travels the earth with the hope of quelling a battle of the gods. The film follows the Greek god Poseidon’s 12-year-old half-human son as he embarks on a fantastical quest across modern-day America to save his mother, return Zeus’ stolen lightning bolt and prevent a deadly war between the gods.
The latest released film stars Logan Lerman as the titular Percy Jackson alongside an ensemble cast which includes Brandon T. Jackson, Alexandra Daddario, Jake Abel, Rosario Dawson, Steve Coogan, Uma Thurman, Catherine Keener, Sean Bean and Pierce Brosnan.
It’s the 21st century, but the gods of Mount Olympus and assorted monsters have walked out of the pages of high school student Percy Jackson’s Greek mythology texts and into his life. And they’re not happy: Zeus’ lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Even more troubling is the sudden disappearance of Percy’s mother.
As Percy adapts to his newly discovered status as a demi-god (his father is Poseidon), he finds himself caught between the battling titans of Mt. Olympus. He and his friends embark on a cross-country adventure to catch the true lightning thief, save Percy’s mom, and unravel a mystery more powerful than the gods themselves.
Filming began in April 2009 in Vancouver, some parts of the film were shot at the Parthenon in Nashville, Tennessee, a full-scale replica of the original Parthenon in Athens.
