RP Singapore offers 80% tuition grant for eligible candidates

Established in 2002, Republic Polytechnic (RP) has successfully pursued its strategic thrusts to be an educational, technological and cultural hub. It is one of Singapore's five polytechnics and has a student population of over 12,000 with more than 700 full time staff. The unique selling point of RP is the creation of a learning environment as opposed to a structure designed for instruction.

This learning environment is one where subject knowledge is learned while using and developing process skills in the context of application. Termed Problem-Based Learning (PBL), this student-centered learning approach enables students to solve problems by working in groups under the supervision of their facilitators. Students are continually assessed and receive daily feedback about their learning. Students are assessed on their individual contributions in class (including team based presentations), self-and peer-evaluation, a reflection journal and three Understanding Tests.

To ensure that students are equipped with foundational generic skills required for further learning and specialized knowledge, all Diploma programmes incorporate learning support from the Centre in areas such as language, culture, enterprise development, personal development and technical communication.

RP has six schools offering Diploma Programme: School of Engineering, School of Information & Communication Technology, School of Applied Sciences, School of Sports, Health & Leisure and School of Technology for the Arts.

Tuition Grant
To subsidize the high cost of tertiary education in Singapore, the Ministry of Education hands out more than US$14,000 per annum of tuition grant to all eligible students. The tuition grant scheme is applicable for all students enrolled for full time diploma courses - subject to the existing policy.

In exchange for the government subsidy received under the tuition grant scheme, all foreign students accepted in RP at a subsidized rate are required to sign a tuition grant agreement in which they will be contractually obliged to work in Singapore for a minimum period of three years upon graduation.
The RP representatives will be conducting a Preview seminar and interview session today February 21 in Colombo.
