Peshawar is a magnet for Muslim conservatives, who disapprove of Valentine's Day as a Western import, and Taliban and Al-Qaeda-linked militants who have increasingly targeted civilians in recent months. An Islamist militant bombing campaign, which has killed more than 3,000 people in Pakistan in under three years, has seen surged in recent months, much of it focused around Peshawar and northwest Pakistan.
