What’s cooking at Culinary Art 2010

Offering the visitor a stunning feast for the eye, Culinary Art 2010, Sri Lanka's biggest annual food and hotel show opened at the BMICH on Friday, February 5 and will continue till the 8th. Vying for top awards are five -star hotels, hotel schools, restaurants, airline catering establishments, hotels from the Maldives, hospitals and even the Sri Lanka Air Force.

Culinary art is the art of cooking. Culinary artists are responsible for skilfully preparing a meal that is pleasing to the plate as well as to the eye. Increasingly they are required to possess a knowledge of the science of food and understanding of diet and nutrition," a release from the organizers, the Chefs Guild of Sri Lanka says.

Culinary exhibitions are conducted to provide models as well as a platform for the development of the art itself. Judging this year's competition which has both static displays such as 'plated appetizers', 'artistic pastry showpiece' and 'artistic bakery showpiece'as well as practical- live displays such as 'hot cooking', 'fruit and vegetable carving', 'bartenders' competition', 'dress the cake' etc, is a panel of international judges.
