Trinity bite the Asgiriya dust

Trinity who have three wins on the trot this season, were given short shrift by a resurgent Josephian side and were beaten by an innings and 13 runs at Asgiriya yesterday.

Seamer Dinal Dhambarage (match bag of 8 for 92) and fellow seamer Chaturanga Kumara (7 for 86) were match winners for the Joes. Enrico de Silva also contributed handsomely with an elegant 87 (14 fours, 176 balls).

Consistent spinners Suresh Wickrema and Aamil Anas salvaged some pride for the Lions while skipper Sajid came good with an unbeaten 46.

Match called off

Piliyandala Central and Sri Rahula Katugastota had to abort their tournament match at Piliyandala as the second day’s play did not take place due to security reasons. Skipper Amith Tillekeratne made a fighting half century for Sri Rahula, while opener Sandun Dilhan and Ruwan Ratnayake entered the forties. Leg spinner S. Chaturanga (4 for 49) had the best figures.

Solid contributions from openers Madushan and Meebindu put the Piliyandala team in an adventurous position at the end of day one.
