Grace Fernandez completes five decades in teaching

Mrs. Grace Fernandez fondly known to her pupils as "Miss Grace" has completed five decades in her chosen career. A past pupil of Holy Family Covent, Bambalapitiya, she joined the staff of St. Bridget's Convent, Colombo-07 on January 16 1960 and leaves St. Bridget's at the end of 2010 after completing 50 years of dedicated and loyal service.

She is a teacher in every sense of the word. She moulded each of her pupils with devotion and concern. Kind and courteous, soft spoken and gentle but yet did not cuddle them, because she knew that only the test of fire makes fine steel. She taught them to listen to people and to filter all they hear on a screen of truth and to take only the good that comes through.

She told them that it is far more honourable to fall than to cheat. She instilled in them the wonder of books, the courage to be and the patience to be brave. Many are the daughters of Sri Lanka who have gained by her able guidance. Most of her past pupils, friends and others who appreciate her services will be with Miss. Grace on her fiftieth anniversary to wish her well.

Though years may go and times may change in the kaleidoscope of life "The Torch of Golden Memories" of this gracious lady with sterling qualities will burn in the hearts of her pupils forever.

Thank you Miss Grace
May God Bless You
- A close friend
