Sachitra spins Ananda to convincing win - Under 19 Cricket

Right arm leg-spinner Sachitra Perera wrecked the Zahira batting with impressive figures of 7 for 30 to steer Ananda to a convincing innings and 68 runs win in their Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter concluded at Ananda Mawatha yesterday.

The writing on the wall was there for Zahira after they were bundled out for 103 in the first inning. Batting the second time with a deficit 155 runs the latter was able to muster only 94 runs.

This was Ananda’s second outright win in just one week. Earlier they beat Dharmasoka Ambalangoda outright.
Sachitra was supported by pacie Ruvinda Shamen who grabbed the other three wickets. Sachitra in the process ended with a match bag of 10 for 46 while Ruvinda finished with a match bag of 6 for 59.
The second days play saw Ananda resuming from their overnight score of 182 for 3 ending their innings after overnight batsman Sachin Dewage reached his ton just before lunch.

Sachin who was unbeaten on 58 on day one went on to add a further 44 runs to remain unbeaten on 102. His knock came in 145 balls and comprised 13 boundaries and a six helping his side declare their innings on a formidable 258 for 4.

Sachin was also associated in a fifth wicket partnership of 92 runs for the third wicket with Madumal Jayaratne who made a brisk 22. Earlier in the innings two useful knocks by Udesh Nadiranga and Minura Janadhi laid the foundation to the Ananda score. Royal dominated proceedings against St Anthony’s Katugastota in their Under 19 cricket encounter which began at Reid Avenue yesterday. Royal winning the toss and electing to bat made a score of 294 for 9 before declaring.

The highlight of the home team’s inning were the half tons coming from the bats of Shaven Edirisuriya, Charuka Rajaratne and Ramit Rambukwella. Shaven made 80 runs with 11 boundaries while Charuka cracked a 74 off just 76 balls inclusive of four boundaries and three sixes while Ramith chipped in with a 58 which included four boundaries and four sixes who together with Shaven put on a 112 runs for the second wicket.

St Anthony’s in their turn ended the day making 114 for 2 with Hiran Wickremasekera and Adel Reyal making unbeaten knocks of 53 and 32 respectively. The match will be continued at 9.30 a.m. today.

Spinner Ijaz grabs six

A six wicket haul by DSS right arm spinner Mohamed Ijaz helped the side restrict Thurstan to a score of 178 on day one in their Under 19 encounter played at Wijerama Mawatha.

Thurstan after being in a strong position of 80 for 2 slid to 178 with Ijaz doing the bulk of the damage as he end with figures of 6 for 45.

In reply DSS made a bold reply of 101 for 3 with Charith Satharasinghe making an unbeaten 43. The match will be continued at 9.30 a.m. today.

Kegalu V beat STC Matale

Kegalu Vidyalaya produced a strong second day performance to beat St. Thomas’ Matale by five wickets in their Inter-School match played at Kegalle.

The Matale Thomians in fact gained a slender lead on the first innings, but collapsed in the second to gift a win to the home team.

Ruwantha Kellepotha 94 not out (111 balls) and a match bag of 8 for 118 once again excelled for the Thomians. Roshan Weerasinghe (102 for once out and 6 for 103) was his equal on the other side.
