Music, fun, surprises and more at 2010’s Country Roads encore

Colombo will once again witness the best of Country Western and Folk music as Country Roads makes a triumphant return after last year’s sold out concert. Also, in an effort to make this year even more memorable, the Country Roads concert for children will be welcoming back crowd favourites, the Mavericks from Germany.

Back by popular demand on Sunday, February 21, from 4.30 p.m. onwards, with this year’s venue yet to be finalised, Country Roads will again undoubtedly entertain both the young and the young-at-heart thanks to its high quality, all star international line-up, including larger-than-life cowboys Dirk Maverick, Steve Bohn and Dietmar on pedal steel guitar, and soulful UK folk sensation Astrid Brook, accompanied again this year by Amelie; all to be flown down courtesy of Sri Lankan Airlines, in association with Sri Lanka Tourism. In addition, there will be a number of returning Sri Lankan acts as in previous years.

While the music at this year’s concert will mix the old with the new, including a diverse range of covers from the likes of Bob Dylan, Peter Seeger, Eagles, Simon & Garfunkel and many more; the cause for 2010 remains the same as always - Sri Lanka’s children. This year’s proceeds from Country Roads will again be disseminated by Save the Children UK, according to the Country Music Foundation (CMF), promoters of the over 20 year-old concert series.

In addition to a great concert, Country Roads will once again be rolling out a number of fun-filled day activities for the whole family. What activities? Prepare to be surprised. However, organisers do promise there will be even more games, prizes and surprises than last year, all set up with the sole purpose of putting 2009’s cowboy fair to shame.

A special feature of this year’s concert will be once again the highly anticipated re-assembling of the Country Revival Band, a phenomenon that is one-year in the making. Featuring Country Music Foundation founders Feizal Samath and Jury Majid as well as a few close friends playing their unique blend of good old traditional country music, the Country Revival Band gets together every year solely to play for this cause.
