57th Badminton Nationals takes off today

The 57th National Badminton Championship, the Major Ranking Tournament of the year will begin today and will be held from 9.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m at the Royal College Sports Complex and the Sri Lanka Badminton Association Indoor Courts.

Events down on the card are -- the Open Men's / Women's Singles, Open Men's / Women's Doubles, Open Mixed Doubles, National Plate Singles Men’s/Women’s, Women’s Veteran’s Singles/Doubles (Over 35 Yrs), Men’s Veteran Singles/Doubles (Over 40 Yrs) and the Master’s Singles/Doubles (Over 50 Yrs).
Seven times title holder Niluka Karunaratne will be looking to add another feather to his cap this year his two brothers Diluka and Dinuka will also be in the fray to add more glamour to the event. In the women’s event Chandrika de Silva will go out once again as the No1 seed and the hot favourite to take singles title.
The other players who could establish themselves this year are – Thilini Jayasinghe, Achini Ratnasiri, Lehka Shehani and Nadeesha Gayanthi.

The tournament will be organized and conducted by the Sri Lanka Badminton Association.
All the national pool players and current national ranked players are expected to be in the fray. Certificates and Medals will be awarded to Winners, Runners-up and the 3rd & 4th Places. (HJ)
