Life’s lessons to budding young cricketers at SLC

Sri Lanka Cricket has launched a programme to train cricketers in several quintessential disciplines, in a bid to make them true ambassadors of the game. This is considered a timely act by Sri Lanka Cricket especially at a time when more youngsters are taking to the game even from rural areas.
The present administration of Sri Lanka Cricket has decided to increase the number of contracted players from 26 to 77..

Accordingly, it has been planned to encompass all 77 contracted players including present national players in this extensive training programme which will be conducted through the year 2010.

The training has been designed on a comprehensive training need analysis which was done by SLC’s newly created Human Resources Department with samples of players from each level having identified their specific skills gaps.

This programme of training will focus subjects and disciplines in both core and soft skills scopes ie: English, Public Speaking, IT Training, Psychology & Behavioral Science, Social Etiquette and Personal Grooming. .

The newly formed SLC Human Resources Department is confident that coaching is the core function of the national cricket operation which determines the success of the cricketers.

Sri Lanka Cricket has a very resourceful and professional set of coaches that comprises expatriate as well as local coaches of the highest caliber.

Under this skills development programme which is successfully underway at present, Sri Lanka Cricket Board focuses on two areas; English and Information Technology (IT).

Training emphasis, which will be held over a period of three months is also intended to do a critical evaluation of participating coaches at the end of this programme.
