The choir show
By Shenal Fernando (11 years), St. Joseph's College

The choir show was named 'Voce Cantabile 2009'. It was held on November 3, 2009. It was held at the BMICH.

The choirs that were participating were the Lawrentian senior choir, Lawrentian junior choir, St. Peter's choir, St. Bridget's choir, St. Sebastian's choir and the St. Joseph's choir.

I was in the St. Joseph's choir. All the choirs were very entertaining. We came as the sixth choir for that night. Our choir sang 'Jesu Redempto', 'Yawanaye' and 'The world in Union'. Our Sir, Mr. Francis D' Almeida said that our performance was awesome. Akila Jayasena, our choir leader also said that we were awesome.

After that we all broke up and went to our families. My mother also said that it was a good performance. Altogether it was a fantastic evening.

The bus

By Minoshi Sinthaby (Grade 8), St. Paul's Girls' School, Milagiriya

The bus is a way of transport. It is a very big vehicle. It carries a lot of passengers at a time. There is a
conductor and a driver. The driver drives the bus and the conductor collects the bus fare from the passengers.

The bus has many seats. It has poles and racks to store luggage. It is a cheap way of travelling and it is very interesting for people. There are CTB buses and private buses and also A/C buses. Everyone has to buy a ticket to travel in the bus.

My favourite game

By Hasna Kareem (13 years), Crescent Girls' School

There are two kinds of games in this world. They are indoor games and outdoor games. Indoor games are carom, boxing and chess etc. Outdoor games are cricket, netball, volleyball and rugby etc.

Of these games I like cricket the best. Cricket is the greatest of games. It was first played in England. I sometimes wonder if it is a game at all because it seems so much like life. A team is made up of eleven players. Now what a team has to do is bowl out the opponents one at a time and the other side has to collect as many runs as possible before victory or defeat is achieved.

Each team has a captain who is just like the captain of a ship, and he works out the line of action to be adopted. Each team varies according to the capabilities of its members. You get a variety of bowlers such as spinners and fast bowlers.

And of course the specialist batsman is also a part of the team. This gives us an equal status with countries such as Australia, Pakistan, West Indies, England, New Zealand and India who have been in the game for a very long time.

Cricket is a very interesting game that everyone likes to watch. Cricket makes life interesting.

The leopards at the zoo

By Rashvin Senanayake, (Year 2) British School in Colombo

One day we went to the zoo. We saw lions, cheetahs, leopards, crocodiles and elephants. My favourite animal was the leopard. The leopard has spots on its body. Leopards live in the jungles of Sri Lanka. They like to cuddle and sleep in the sun.

My favourite book

By Malki Thalagala (10 years), St. Joseph's Girls' School, Nugegoda

My favourite book is 'Black Beauty.' It's a very beautiful story about horses. This book is written by Anna Sewell. This book came to bookshops in 1877.

Nobody knew much about the writer. It was the only book that she wrote. She wrote this book because she loved animals. Mostly she loved horses. It hurt her to see anybody being unkind to horses.

In the first chapters, Black Beauty says how he spent his small days. Black Beauty was a very good horse. So everyone loved Black Beauty. Black Beauty had a lot of friends. I like this book because I love horses too.
