It was another rain hit week in the Premier Tier ‘A’ and ‘B’ inter-club cricket encounters. Of the five matches played in the Tier ‘A’ category, play was possible in only three matches which were the games between NCC and Chilaw Marians, Bloomfield versus CC and Moors against Ragama CC.

In the other two games at Panagoda and P. Sara Stadium the matches were called off in the afternoon without a ball being bowled.

In the match between NCC and Chilaw Marians the highlight of the match were the half tons made by Angelo Perera and Yohan de Silva which helped the home team end their innings making 265 from their overnight score of 252 for 8.

Marians in their turn were 48 for 3 when bad light stopped play. The match between Bloomfield and CCC saw Chamara Silva fighting a lone battle with a fine knock of 130 from his sides’ score of 246.
In the only other match that was played Moors fought back after being bundled out for a paltry 91 to grab five Ragama CC wickets for 64. The highlight in this match was the five catches taken by Ragama CC’s Indika de Saram which probably could be a record in domestic cricket.

Seeduwa/Raddoluwa CC and Navy SC dominate
Surprisingly all the four matches in the Tier ‘B’ category were played though play was called off early due to bad light. Seeduwa/Raddoluwa CC and Navy SC in the process dominated the proceedings with the two teams taking first inning leads over table leaders Lankan CC and Panadura.

Two fine knocks by Manjula de Silva who made 76 and Geeth Kumara who chipped in with a 70 helped Seeduwa/Raddoluwa take a first inning lead at Thurstan ground in Reid Avenue.

The duo’s knocks enabled their side make formidable 266 from their overnight score of 94 for 3. This was in reply to Lankan CC’s score of 129. Navy SC succeeded in defending their low score of 139 as they restricted Panadura resuming from their overnight score of 64 for 5 to 114 at Welisara.

Police made a bold reply of 156 for 2 in reply to Singha SC’s 172 in the match played at the Police Park while Moratuwa SC resuming from their overnight score thanks to half tons by Indrajith Perera and Nalin Wijesinghe ended the second days play making 262 for 9 at De Zoysa Stadium in Moratuwa.
