Seminar on Canadian migration

Australian Migration Centre's associate company for Canadian migration and related services, Canadian Migration Center will conduct informative seminars on Sunday November 15 at Jaic Hilton, Colombo 02 from 10am - 12noon and on Tuesday November 17 at Hotel Sapphire, Wellawatte from 6pm to 8pm.

The seminar is conducted together with Canadian Migration Center's partner company, C2K's (Canada 2000 Immigration and Business Services Inc.) Chief Consultant Mr. Ziad El-Shurafa, (Canadian Society of Immigration Consultant) CSIC M041868. C2K is a Canadian based immigration services provider offering comprehensive immigration, settlement and related business services.
The key focus of the seminar will pertain to Skilled Worker Programme and Investment Programme amongst other immigration topics.

Skilled workers are people who can become permanent residents because they are able to become economically established in Canada. To continue this tradition, Canada encourages skilled worker applications for permanent residents from people with skills, education and work experience that will contribute to the Canadian economy. If you are in any of the below mentioned occupations you would be eligible for the Skilled Worker Programme.

If you are in an occupation which corresponds to the list of occupations identified in the Ministerial Instructions and have evidence of one year of continuous full-time (or full-time equivalent) experience in one of the following occupations in the past 10 years:

Auditors, Accountants and Financial Managers / ITC Managers / Medical and Health Care Professionals / Chefs / Cooks / Accommodation, Restaurant and Food Service Managers / Construction Managers / Geologists, Geochemists and Geophysicists / Mining, Petroleum and Geological Engineers / Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists / Occupational Therapists / Physiotherapists / Head Nurses and Supervisors / Licensed and Registered Nurses / Medical Radiation Technologists / University Professors and Other Vocational Instructors / Contractors and Supervisors for Pipefitting or Carpentry / Heavy Construction Equipment Crews / Electricians / Plumbers / Welders and Machine Operators / Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanics / Crane Operators / Drillers and Blasters - Surface Mining Quarrying and Construction / Supervisors, Mining and Quarrying / Supervisors, Petroleum, Gas and Chemical / Processing and Utilities.

In addition to being in one of the said occupations it is vital that the following criteria are also met.

  • Your education - a Diploma or equivalent is a minimum requirement.
  • Your abilities in English and/or French, Canada's two official languages
  • Your work experience - minimum of 1 year full-time work experience within the last 10 years
  • Your age - ideally 21 to 49
  • You have an arranged employment in Canada
  • Your adaptability - spouse educational attainment, relative in Canada (excluding first cousins), previous work or study in Canada and arranged employment.

Each of the above criteria is awarded a minimum and maximum number of points and depending on how well an applicant meets the criteria. A total of 67 points of 100 should be achieved for an applicant to qualify for the Skilled Worker Programme.

In addition to the 'Skilled Worker Programme' there are opportunities for Business and Investor migration, namely the "FEDERAL OR QUEBEC INVESTOR PROGRAMME" and "NEW BRUNSWICK NOMINEE PROGRAMME"

FEDERAL OR QUEBEC INVESTOR PROGRAMME: This Business Immigration Programme seeks to attract experienced business people to Canada who will support the development of a strong and prosperous Canadian economy. The nature of this programme is that you must have a minimum of 2 years in the past 5 years management experience, in other words the HR and financial control of the company or department you manage, net worth of minimum $800,000 CAD that was obtained legally, make a $400,000 CAD investment for 5 years with no interest (There is also a financing option by paying a non-refundable fee of $120,000 CAD), knowledge of English or French (not mandatory), and other abilities that will help you to establish yourself as a permanent resident in Canada.

NEW BRUNSWICK NOMINEE PROGRAMME: This programme was designed to allow Provinces an active role in selecting immigrants to meet specific economic needs. Under the Provincial Nominee Programme, the Province seeks immigrants with management skills and other attributes that will come to New Brunswick to support employment or business expansion.

To be considered under the Provincial Nominee Programme, you must make an exploratory visit to New Brunswick and have a business plan approved by a New Brunswick official of the Population Growth Secretariat. An application will be considered only when one of those requirements are met.
