Musical mayhem

By Smriti Daniel

The Killing Joke is Stigmata’s idea of a great birthday party. Tennyson Napoleon turns 26 this October 31, but that isn’t their only excuse for a concert – there’s Halloween, (the posters promise an “evening of progressive horror”) and since the band has begun recording their much awaited third album, it might also be the last gig for a while. And of course, they’re in great company - FuzMechanX and Grey Mind Domain – fellow progressive metal enthusiasts will be taking to the stage with a play list specially tailored to the event.

So in the spirit of the season, the Mirror Magazine got the guys to talk about horror and mayhem. Taraka, unfortunately was incommunicado. But we have it on good authority, that as a Bruce Lee fan, he’s just not that into Halloween.

If you had to get into costume for Halloween what would each of you dress up as?
Suresh: The Crow (I would love to have Spawn’s cloak though).
Andrew: A Vampire!
Tenny: Cartman.
Javeen: I don’t know...The Undertaker!?
Confession time: Anyone in the group have any phobias? Spiders? Deep water?
Suresh: I have a phobia of pathological and obsessive women.
Andrew: I hate geckos. Just geckos!
Tenny: Scared of heights.
Javeen: Deadly snakes.
It’s the scariest night of the year.  Zombies, vampires and werewolves roam. Who would you trust to watch your back?
Suresh: Stigmata and my closest buddies… I like vampires, we share many sentiments.
Andrew: Friends and family I guess…
Tenny: Stigs family and maybe I’ll use Shadow Clone Technique and multiply myself and get Sakura chan next to me!
Javeen: Closest friends and family.
You’re really tired, but if there’s one movie that’s scary enough to give you a sleepless night, it would be?
Suresh: David Fincher’s Se7en. Because there are some very twisted and disturbed people in this world and there is nothing more intimidating or frightening than reality.
Andrew: Omen was good. But most horror movies don’t scare me. I find most of them funny.
Tenny: Scary Movie 1, 2, 3 and 4
Javeen: None I guess, I think dark demonic reality stories scare me more.
In a high-stakes game, you have to risk life and limb in combat with one of these horror movie stars: Norman Bates, Chucky the manic killer doll or Hannibal the Cannibal. Who would each of you choose and why?
Suresh: Hannibal Lecter is obviously the deadliest chap on the list, you don’t tango with a man whose specialty is brain stew!
Andrew: I don’t really care! Just bring ‘em on!
Tenny: Chucky the Maniac Doll that’s one scary doll, but think I’ll share a trick or treat with Chucky this Halloween and play cards!
Javeen: Chucky! Because I’ll definitely rip it apart…
All of you decide to hold a séance together. Whose spirit will you summon?
Suresh: Dimebag Darrel, Chuck Shuldiner, Jimi Hendrix, Bon Scott, Jon Bonham, Cliff Burton…
Andrew: Don’t forget Randy Rhoads.
Tenny: Chuck Schuldiner & Dimebag Darrel
Javeen: Dimebag Darrel, Cliff Burton, Chuck Schuldiner, but if I had only 1 choice I’d bring back the DIME!

The Killing Joke will be held at the British School Auditorium from 7pm onwards on October 30. Tickets are priced at Rs. 500/- and will be available through the bands’ myspace and facebook pages and at the gate. For more info, visit: www.myspace.com/stigmatasrilanka
