An historical milepost in the American classic movies, ‘The Maltese Falcon’, detective mystery film will be screened at 6 pm on Tuesday, October 20 at the American Center, Colombo 3.

This 1941 film the debut direction of John Huston based on Dashiell Hammett’s 1929 novel under the same title is still considered to be the tightest, sharpest, and most cynical of Hollywood’s official deathless classics.

The story concerns a San Francisco private detective’s dealings with three unscrupulous adventurers who compete to obtain a fabulous jewel-encrusted statuette of a falcon. The film stars Humphrey Bogart as a private investigator Sam Spade, Mary Astor as his femme fatale client, Sydney Greenstreet in his film debut, and Peter Lorre. It was nominated for three Academy Awards.
