Pakistan make 233 against determined New Zealand

Johannesburg Saturday - Pakistan staged a gallant fight to make 233 for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 50 overs in their ICC Trophy cricket semi-final against New Zealand here yesterday.

Winning the toss the Pakistanis had a difficult time countering the Kiwi bowling headed by IG Butler and skipper Daniel Vettori.

Buttler bowled best to claim four wickets for 44 runs while Vettori, who in a pre-match interview said that they are determined to overcome the Pakistan challenge, returned figures of 10-2-43-3.

For the Pakistanis Umar Akmal was the top scorer with 55 while Mohammed Yousuf made 45.
As the game progressed it was evident that Pakistan found it difficult to make runs but the side batted with great caution and then accelerated the scoring to make their score to 233 for nine in 50 overs.
