Malagama villagers live in fear

Villagers of Malagama in the Padukka area reportedly live in fear as days pass not knowing when they would be chased away from their houses and their lands allegedly acquired by a wealthy businessman in the area.

Forty five year old Sirisoma is one of the poor villagers presently living with his sister in Malagama. He contracted a fever that continued for months and finally had to seek treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.

Meanwhile his sister decided to live with relatives until he recovered. When they finally came back they found only the skeleton of a house remaining with all the belongings in the house missing, the tiles removed and even the plants in the garden gone. “These are Swarnabhoomi lands gifted to us by former President Chandrika Kumaratunga. We see a conspiracy going on with this businessman threatening and robbing houses using his men,” Sirisoma said.
