AYA continues its support for young artists

The annual cultural event organised by the Alliance francaise de Kandy, AYA – the Alliance Young Artists, will be held from September 18-25 at the auditorium.

This programme is conducted for selected students with a special aptitude and a proven ability for art within the age group of 12-18 years. The young artists who have been selected this year are Fathima Shaakira (Badi-Ud-Din Mahmud, Kandy), Kanishka Iddamalgoda (Hillwood College, Kandy), and Sirini P. Kumarasinghe (St. Joseph’s Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Kegalle).

This cultural programme had been designed to encourage the young artists to enrich their knowledge of art. It was launched in 2003 by Alliance Kandy’s director Jacques Soulie.

To name a few, Jeevantha Bandara Samarakoon, of Hataraliyadda, presently studying at the University of Aesthetic Studies, E.A. Chanuri Madhushani of Matara, A.I. Chaminda Siriwardene presently at the University of Kelaniya, and Pragathi Helakumara of Gampola, a student of Alliance Francaise de Kandy, Fathima Rifka Farook, Militha Menura Bandara, Thamali Dhananjani Kumari, Ashinshani Jayawanthi Nambuge, Sudan Jerome Samarasinghe are some of the major talents discovered during the last seven years of AYA as well as young Pulasthi Handunge, a student of Trinity College.
