The Australians ended a frustrating run of four straight losses in the series with an unexpected but deserving win over the previously unbeaten Springboks. Adam Ashley-Cooper and James O'Connor both scored second half tries for the Australians while flyhalf Matt Giteau kicked two penalties, a conversion and a drop goal.

Morne Steyn landed a penalty and a drop goal in the first half for the Springboks, who have not won in Brisbane for 38 years and now travel to New Zealand for their final Tri-Nations match.
