All Island Inter - school Quiz Competition

Conducted by Lions Clubs Multiple District 306 and ICBT

A Quiz competition always promotes children to acquire knowledge and use knowledge to achieve success. This is very important today as the present generation of students are not in the habit of acquiring knowledge through extra reading. It has become necessary to train our youth to prepare themselves for the future by developing a reading habit in them.

Lions Clubs International Multiple District 306 conducts this quiz contest to fulfill these requirements and it is conducted during the month of October which is declared as the month of reading in Sri Lanka. The contest is organized and conducted by Lions District 306 A1 and all other five Lions Districts also participate. This year it is conducted for the 4th year as an all island project.

This contest is held in three stages. The first stage is fixed for Sunday October 18 and will be conducted in all provinces including the Northern Province. The second stage will be conducted on November 14 with the selected schools from Stage One. The National Level will have the best five schools from each Lions District. During the last years the National Level Contest had participants from very remote areas like Ganthirityagama, Dehiattakandiya, Nawalapitiya, Anuradhapura and Matara.

The schools in outstations were performing better than the Colombo schools. Mahinda College Galle, Taxila Central College Horana, Kingswood College Kandy, Rahula College Matara were some of the schools that came to the top. The National Level Contest will be on January 23 2010.

This year the contest is open to all schools, and they could apply through the coupon that appears in the Sunday Times (Education Times section) from September 6 onwards and in the Daily Mirror (Mirror Education section) from September 3 onwards.

All schools can send in teams of 5 children from Grades 10 -13. The main sponsor for this competition is The International College of Business & Technology ICBT Campus).
