Shamal Dissanayake takes U14 title - Junior Tennis Nationals

Top seed Shamal Dissanayake won the Under 14 boy’s singles with ease at the Junior National Tennis Tournament held at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association(SLTA) Courts yesterday.

Dissanayake dispatched his opponent Yasitha De Silva in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.

Fourth seed Dinushki Ranasinghe won the Under 16 Girls girl’s singles also in straight sets. She defeated Shankarai Thayakaran 6-2, 6-2.

Dissanayake will be in action again today when he faces Thurunu Eswarage in one of the Under 16 boy’s semi finals, the victor will play the winner of the second semi final between top seed Vimukthi De Alwis and Chinthaka Shaveen.

The Under 14 girl’s singles semi finals will see Ranasinghe take on Vinuri Wickramaratne in one semi final while Thayakaran gets another shot at a singles crown when she faces Tisuri Molligodain the second semi final.

Fourth seed Amreetha Muttiah faces second seed Roshenka Fernando in an Under 18 girl’s singles semi final, while top seed Shanelle Abeysekera clashes with Nilupul Goonesekera in the other.
The Under 12 boy’s singles final between Akila Vimukthi and Chehan Fernando also takes place today at the same venue.
