‘Akasa Kusum’ blossoms at night

The screening of ‘Akasa Kusum’ has given way to nostalgic memories of hey day of cinema as the moviegoers are now able to enjoy the late night shows during the week ends.

The film is now being screened at Regal cinema with special shows at 9.30 pm on Friday and Saturday.“We hope to have the daily late night shows in our cinemas soon,” Managing Director of CEL circuit, G. R. Pathmaraj said.

The move is also coincidental as the movie is a story about an ageing film star played by screen queen Malani Fonseka who reached the stardom in the Sri Lankan cinema history at an era where going for movies specially at night was a regular habit.

Directed by Prasanna Vithanage ‘Akasa Kusum’ (Flowers of the Sky) has already won the Best Asian Movie award at the recent Cines del Sur Festival in Grenada, Spain and the prestigious Silver Peacock award for Malani at the last Indian International Film Festival held in Goa together with a lot of other international acclaim.

Together with Malani the stellar cast is comprised of Nimmi Harasgama, Dilhani Ekanayake, Samanalee Fonseka, Kaushalya Fernando, Jayani Senanayake Sanduni Fonseka, Mohamed Adamally, Pubudu Prabath, Kuma Attanayake and Kumara Thirimadura.

Award-winning Lakshman Joseph de Saram composed the musical scores while M. D. Mahindapala has handled the camera.

‘Akasa Kusum’ is a Sri Lanka-India co-production with H. D. Premasiri producing for Sarasavi Cineru and A. Sreekar Prasad for Film Freaks.
