Back with flair

By Tahnee Hopman

The music of Bathiya Jayakody and Santhush Weeraman now, is considerablya different from the music they first started out with.

When the pop/ rap duo first met at Mary Anne David’s school for singing, they signed up for lessons in the categories of classical and show tunes. And in 1998, Bathiya and Santhush took Sri Lanka’s audience by storm with their first album.

Eleven years, eleven albums and around ten awards since then, the two have not lost any of their flair and passion for the music they create. Having conducted their most successful concert - Neththara Live in 2008, the dynamic duo are now ready themselves to bring their audience yet another entertaining evening - Bathiya 'N' Santhush in Concert – to be held on September 5 at the St. Joseph’s College Auditorium from 7pm onwards.

A fund raiser organized by the Methodist College Class of ’90, the proceeds from the concert will go towards the school. “Apart from the other school based societies like the OGA,” says Neidra Williams a member of the organizing committee, “the class of ’90 is the only batch so far, to get together and organize fund raisers of this nature. When we approached Bathiya and are Santhush, they were very keen on doing the show as they had not done a show in Sri Lanka for a while and this would be their first major concert for this year.”

Bathiya and Santhush will be joined once again by Ashanthi, Randhir and Umara in the upcoming concert. The Co-sponsor for the event will be HNB Assurance, while Keells Super is a partner and Colombo.living.com is the E-Media partner. The electronic media sponsors will be Channel 1 MTV, Sirasa TV, Y FM and Shakthi TV, while the print media sponsors are The Daily Mirror and The Sunday Times.

Tickets for the show, priced at Rs. 1000/-, 750/- and 500/- are available at Keells Super Outlets in Wattala, Union Place, Liberty Plaza, Kohuwela, Mount Lavinia and Thalawathugoda, and at Methodist College from August 25. Tickets can also be ordered online at www.ticketslk.com.
