Steyn officially in the clear

Steyn - off the hook, if he was ever on it.
Cricket South Africa announced that the Indian Premier League had cleared Proteas' fast bowler Dale Steyn of any doping violation.

"There was a discrepancy in the result of a doping test during the IPL," commented CSA CEO Gerald Majola. "But the authorities are perfectly satisfied with the explanation that Dale has provided and they have confirmed that no offence has been committed."

He added that CSA remained totally committed to the International Cricket Council's anti-doping programme.

Steyn will link up with the rest of the Proteas' ODI squad for their training camp at Potchefstroom at the end of the month ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy.

CSA earlier confirmed Steyn had been asked to explain an abnormal finding in a drugs test conducted during the IPL.

Steyn, who was on duty with Bangalore Royal Challengers at the time of the test, had shown higher than normal amounts of morphine in a drugs test conducted during the IPL.

However, tournament chairman and commissioner Lalit Modi said no player had tested positive.
"I'm aware of the reports from South Africa, but I can say that our anti-doping agency has not given us any input that Steyn or any other player had failed a dope test," Modi said.

Steyn's increased levels of morphine is believed to have been caused by painkillers the fast bowler used to relieve chronic migraines.
