David Peiris Motor Company will be the first big motor supplier to Jaffna with plans to set up a sales office in the early part of September 2009.
Deputy General Manager of Sales and Marketing Shanaka Jayaweera said an initial consignment of vehicles, subject to clearance by the Ministry of Defense, is expected to make its way to Jaffna this coming Tuesday. Around 20 motor cycles and five three wheelers will be sent.
“These vehicles are being sent as a pilot project,” Mr. Jayaweera said. “Depending on the requirements, we should be able to increase the numbers.” David Peiris is already selling motorcycles in Jaffna through its distributors. Mr. Jayaweera said the company is offering economical modes of transportation with the Bajaj range of motorcycles.
He added that people in Jaffna will also benefit from employment as sales employees, service and spare part dealers and other added services will generate employment. |
