International Scholar provides a unique service to doctors and allied health professionals

In Sri Lanka and in many countries in our region there is a very high demand from students to study medicine and qualify as a doctor. Many a parent would love to see their child graduate as a medical doctor. Globally the demand for doctors is also growing, the main reason being people are living longer and as a result there is a growing demand for high quality patient care not only for medical doctors. Particularly in the west and in the industrialized nations this demand is ever increasing.

Training of a medical doctor in the west is expensive. Providing facilities to train doctors is costly. These circumstances have resulted in many opportunities being provided in our region for students to pursue higher studies in medicine and further and higher studies in allied disciplines.

Many parents and students believe that to build a successful career especially in the medical professions it is important to study in countries like UK and Australia. In studying medicine the annual tuition fees alone are over Rs.3m but can be up to Rs. 4m or more.

Many health professionals qualified from the countries in our region run health services in the industrialized countries. If qualifications gained in our region are not acceptable in the developed countries then how is it that so many from the Asian region are working as Doctors, Specialist Doctors, Dentists, Nurses, Radiographers etc., in the in the industrialized world? It is a misconception that you have to qualify in the west to build a successful career in the medical field.

There are many organizations that represent foreign medical universities and place students in foreign universities. There are not many organizations that are in a position to provide a comprehensive service to students wanting to study medicine and allied disciplines.

International Scholar Educational Services (Pvt) Ltd. (ISES), a member of the International Scholar Group of Companies is one organization that is fully equipped to provide such a comprehensive service. As well as advising on the choice of institutes ISES has the knowledge and the experience to provide advice on what are the opportunities available to qualified doctors.

Another member of the Internatioal Scholar Group of Companies, International Scholar Professional Services (Pvt) Ltd. (ISPS), a Training and Professional placement service is able to place suitably qualified doctors in employment or find further training opportunities. Currently ISPS is the only organization approved by the Ministry of Health in Sri Lanka to train government nurses to work in the USA.

In Sri Lanka there are seven government Medical schools. Six of these universities are graduating doctors and the seventh, Rajarata University is yet to graduate its first batch. The eighth one being mooted is the eastern university and also a private medical school is being constructed.

The current annual graduation of doctors is around 800. With the first batch of students coming out from Rajarata University the annual graduation will reach approximately 1000. In addition to local graduates there will be over 1000 foreign qualified doctors returning to seek internship places.

Already internship placements can take a long time and with increased numbers returning there is a possibility of even longer waiting periods before well qualified doctors can find suitable placements.
These facts should cause any rational person to seek advice and plan out post study work options before graduation. One sure way of doing this is to seek obligation free advice at no cost from International scholars.
