Bluesy sound of Magic Vinyl

By Megara Tegal

Faster than you can say “Magic Vinyl performing live,” the relatively new rock band is back on stage and performing for their rapidly growing fan base. Since Magic Vinyl’s debut concert a month back, their fans have been all too eager to see the band perform again and have swayed them into organising another concert on short notice.

Besides attending to the requests by fans, the concert will be a platform for the launching of the bands newly created website. “We played our first gig at the Shine Lounge last month and the response was overwhelming.

There were many who asked us when we were going to play next, so we thought we should aim to please. The gig will also coincide with the launching of our website, which we like to think will be a portal between us and our fans,” front man and lead vocalist of the band, Anil Balasuriya explains.

“We also want to use the gig as an opportunity to test drive our originals with our audience. The audience at our previous gig was amazing and our songs “Requiem,” “Black” and “Hey” got an incredible response from them.

We will be playing two more originals this time around, “Tribute” and “Violet.” It would be great to see the crowd reaction to these. At the upcoming concert we will also be doing covers from Coldplay, Green Day, The Cure, Kings of Leon and Editors as well,” says Anil.

This concert will have two other guest bands, Point Blank, a new outfit that performed alongside Magic Vinyl at their previous gig, along with another band. Anil added that the band will be performing quite a few songs, so they have kept the supporting bands at a minimal. While Rockapalooza, their previous gig, had bands that were very diverse in the genre of music they play and while they like diversity at their gigs, this time they’ve decided to have supporting bands that would complement their music more, creating a more of a chilled out atmosphere.

Having gone through several changes in their line up which lead to the band renaming themselves, Point Blank was set up about a month back. Playing mostly alternate rock with a bit of bluesy sound, they complement the alternative, progressive, British indie rock music by Magic Vinyl. Magic Vinyl Live at Shine Lounge will be held on August 8, at 8:30pm onwards. Ticket for the concert are priced at Rs. 500/- and will be available at the gate.
