Over 1.1 m displaced by Pak fighting

ISLAMABAD, May 16, 2009 (AFP) - More than 1.1 million people have fled fighting between Pakistani government forces and the Taliban in the northwest of the country during the last two weeks, the UN refugee chief said today.

“We have registered since May 2, 1,171,000 displaced persons,” UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres told a news conference.
