Welisinghe’s 56 help Rio SC to defeat Ravi Punchihewa CA

Right hand batsman M.W.Welisinghe of Rio SC Ambalangoda made a sparkling unbeaten 56 runs in 27 balls which helped his side to a comfortable nine wickets win over Ravi Punchihewa CA in the CCC School of Cricket fifth international invitation under 14 cricket tournament at the Mount Mary Grounds yesterday.

It was a majestic innings as he took apart the Ravi Punchihewa CA bowlers and took his side to victory in 8.2 overs. His innings contained seven fours and three sixes.

Ravi Punchihewa CA batted first and found out that the run making was a difficult against Rio SC bowlers. Rio SC bowlers P.Akila (2 for 22), H.L.L.Shanika (3 for 18) and K.S.W.Deshapriya (4 for 6) saw Ravi Punchihewa CA being shot out for 72 runs in 26.1 overs.

Dhananjaya Shines with the ball

Green Field cricket club fast bowler Kavindu Dhananjaya returned excellent bowling figures of 6-5-1-5 to give his side a handsome 8 wickets win over Malay Cricket School

Malay Cricket school batting first were shot out for 58 runs in 27.2 overs with most of the damage being done by Dhananjaya who had the losing side batsmen struggling.

Greenfield Cricket Club chasing a victory target of 59 runs to win in 30 overs with run rate of nearly 2 runs per over coasted home in 21 overs for the loss of two wickets.

Fine double by Muditha

A fine all round performance by MCA CA’s Muditha Weerasinghe who scored 51 runs and took two wickets for 25 runs helped his side to a 74 runs victory over Malaysian Malay CA.

This tournament is played for the for the Nelson Mendis Challenge trophy.

At Health Grounds Greenfield CC beat Malay cricket school by 8 wickets.

Malay cricket school – 58 all out in 27.2 overs (Yohan Nirmal 17; Chathura Baskaran 11; Kavindu Dhananjaya 6-5-1-5, R. Dilshan 4 for 2)

Greenfield CC – 60 for 2 in 20.4 overs (Sidath Anuruddha 33n.o, Sashintha Liyanage 12).
At Thurstan Grounds - CCC B beat Lankan CC by 5 wickets

Lankan CC – 69 for 9 in 30 overs (Thilan Wanigarachchi 12; Kanishka Perera 5 for 14, Dilshan Kadawatharachchi 3 for 9)

CCC: B” – 70 for 5 in 19.5 overs (Kanishka Perera 26, Trishan Thanuja 10; Methsith Jayamanna 4 for 15)
At University grounds - SR CA beat Raju CA India by 8 wickets

Raju CA India – 48 all out in 23.1 overs (Ravindu Lakmal 4 for 10; Charith Dilshan 3 for 5)
SR Cricket Academy – 49 for 2 in 6 overs (Sahan Wedasinghe 12)

At Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte Grounds -SSC A beat CCC ‘C’ by 10 wickets
CCC “C” – 46 all out in 17 overs (Janith Dias 10, Harith Maduwantha 4 for 12)

SSC A – 47 for no loss in 9 overs (Pathum Madusanka 17n.o, Sadeera Samarawickrema 20n.o)
At University grounds - CCC A beat Raju CC Hyderabad by 10 wickets

Raju CC Hyderabad – 29 all out in 8.5 overs(Athif Nazeer 4 for 11, Dhanush Peiris 2 for 2)
CCC A – 30 for no loss (Lahiru Koralage 11n.o, Tharinda Malawige 11n.o)

At Mount Mary - Rio SC beat Ravi Punchihewa CA by 9 wickets

Ravi Punchihewa CA - 72 all out in 26.1 overs (M.Ricaz 20; P.Akila 2 for 22 , H.L.L Shanika 3 for 18, K.S.W.Deshapriya 4 for 6)

Rio SC - 73 for 1 in 8.2 overs (M.W.Welisinghe 56 n.o)

Malaysian Malay CA – 98 all out in 22.1 overs (M.Hazim 17; Mudith Weerasinghe 2 for 25, Sachin Hewawasam 2 for 20)

At Mount Mary – Katana CA beat R.N.S. CA by 115 runs
