Sita returns with her creations

Well-known sculptress, artist and musician Sita De Saram returns to the arts scene with an exhibition of her work – portrait sculptures of several personalities, sketches, landscapes and portraits at the Harold Peiris Gallery on December 6 and 7 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

.

Best known for her sculptures, Sita received her early training at the Technical College and the Heywood College of Fine Arts and also came under the tutelage of J.D.A. Perera, Mudliyar A.C.G.S. Amarasekera and Harry Peiris among others. Over the course of a long and distinguished career, she has held several exhibitions, both in Sri Lanka and in the US where she lived for many years. Among the many awards she has received is the SAARC Women’s Association award of excellence for cultural achievement.

Many landscapes painted during her travels to Norway, Vietnam and the US will be among the paintings displayed. The fjords of Norway have fired her imagination and this is a country she would like to visit again for a longer time, she says. Sri Lankan landscapes also figure among her paintings, though she is quick to point out that we are in danger of losing much of our heritage if we don’t respect it and look after it as we should.

Part proceeds of the show will be donated to animal welfare and ecological charities and the Leprosy Association.
