President off to Italy

President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday left for Italy, the President’s Office said. The President is due to have an audience with the Pope during his visit. He was accompanied by Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama.
US extends ban on LTTE

The ban on the LTTE as a terrorist organisation in the United States of America has been extended, a spokesperson for the US Embassy said.

The extension has come into effect in October. The LTTE was originally banned in 1997 for a five year period and thereafter extended for another five years in 2003.
