Navy - LTTE clash off Nagarkovil

The Navy destroyed at least four sea Tiger boats killing 16 sea Tigers in a fierce round of fighting off Nagarkovil today morning, spokesman Commander D.K.P.Dassanayaka said.

He said five sailors also had been injured in the incident.

The spokesman said that fighting lasted for one hour.

Meanwhile the Air Force said that jets destroyed two LTTE boats at Championpattu this morning in support of the Navy operation.

Intelligence sources have confirmed that three sea tigers were killed in the air raid, Air Force Spokesman Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara said.

Meanwhile the LTTE claimed in a statement that they attacked a Dvora fast attack craft and a Landing Craft, sinking both. They also claimed a Navy water jet was damaged, and seven 'sea tigers' were killen in the clashes. .
