UNP leading campaign against TV regulations

The UNP backed by the SLMC and the SLFP (M) have declared an agitation campaign against an extraordinary gazette notification which impose strict control on TV stations including tough provisions on cancellation of their license.

Opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe at a joint press conference with the opposition parties today said they would campaign both, inside and outside parliament against the regulations.

Under the provision a TV station license could be cancelled for broadcasting programs which are ‘in violation of any laws of the country” among other clauses..
