Indices fall sharply at Colombo bourse

Trading at the Colombo bourse on Tuesday saw the two indices fall to sharp levels with the Milanka Price Index sliding by 127.20 points or 6.1% to 1,935.25 while the All Share Index slumped by 90.38 points or 4.9% to 1,740.44, brokers said.

Milanka dropped below the 2,000 level for the first time in four years, the last time being 2004. Turnover was Rs 134 million. Brokers said most of the blue chips fell while plantation stocks including Maskeliya Plantations fell by more than 10%.

Carsons fell to 8.6 % to Rs 19.25 per share, Commercial Bank dropped by 4.6 % to Rs 56, John Keells Holdings fell by 2.7% to Rs 63.25, Distilleries dropped by 5.6% to Rs 50 while Dialog eased by 9.6 % to Rs 7.
